IMAX 70MM

Celebration Cinema Grand Rapids North is one of forty theaters on the planet that is capable of projecting a movie on a real, full frame IMAX 70MM film.

Why It's Different

Not all IMAX is created equal

Most "IMAX" screens today are digital. What we have is the original: a projector that runs 70MM film stock horizontally, frame by frame, at a scale almost no theater on Earth can match. It's the format Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, and Quentin Tarantino fight to shoot in and the only way to see their films exactly as intended.

The 1.43:1 Frame

A taller picture you can't get anywhere else

When a film is shot for IMAX, the 1.43:1 frame uses the full height and width of our screen, which gives you about 40% more on screen than a standard widescreen presentation. The film also runs horizontally through the projector, and a single IMAX frame is nearly 10 times the size of a traditional movie frame.

Behind the Screen

Reels you can barely lift

A single IMAX 70MM feature can weigh hundreds of pounds and stretch miles of film, fed from a giant horizontal platter and threaded by hand by our team. There's no "press play." Every showing is a piece of craft and the same analog process used since IMAX began. It's why these screenings feel like an event, not just a movie.
